The difference between traditional publishing and self-publishing is a bit like being employed vs being self-employed. If you work for yourself, you wear many hats: you have to deal with tax, business admin, marketing, sales etc. If you self-publish, you also need to take care of the complete book publishing process, from drafting and beta reading through to editing, formatting, marketing, and sales.
